manchesters hudd traxx imprint kicks off 2013 with a bang bringing you the omatsuri ep this january, a collaborative effort from spaniards javi bora and le vinyl.
javi bora and le vinyl have released music for reputable labels such as 2020 vision, off, robsoul, catwash and loco records. both producers maintain a heavy dj schedule on their home turf of spain and further afield, building their reputations as two of spains most prominent deep house artists. this record marks a milestone for hudd traxx as they reach their 40th release, its no surprise looking back that the label has such a highly praised reputation within the underground, having put out cuts from dj sneak, agnes, sascha dive, rick wade and rolando to name a few.

heading into 2013 drumcode are keeping up the refined techno that they have displayed and are making sure that they continue to keep up this form throughout the coming year. gregor tresher is has thundered back with his second solo ep for drumcode.

knox is the band brainchild of brother-sister duo nic and eliza coolidge. hailing from boston and new york, the siblings released their second ep, here, on december 3rd, and it is a big step forward for the band. formed less than two years ago, in march 2011, knox finds themselves working with the likes of john tejada and kuxxan suum on this release, and the outcome is stunning. here is five-song set full of ice and echoes. it runs as close to the third rail of impersonation, but flies away so quickly that knox sounds contextual and perfectly fresh. the influences from james blake is clear: the swooping, bomber bass and half-timey compressed dub beats, here could also easily be an inventive b-side to the latest how to dress well album. but, with the limited scale, interspersed remixes and foundling status in the scene, i would say it is likely a more impressive feat. the ep as a whole is desolate. expansive spaces filled with cold little beats and vocal washes, exploring in the course of five songs an icescape aesthetic with a sense of place usually reserved for full-length albums. the remixes blend so seamlessly that i didnt even realize they were during my first, casual listen.

sons and daughters follow up their silver spell / optimo remix package with a second 12 inch. this time round they focus on orion, taken from their latest album mirror mirror, which was afforded universal critical acclaim on release last year and described by q as a creative rebirth. the 12 inch features 3 mixes kicking off with the emperor machine remix, the solo project of andy meecham from chicken lips. next up psychedelic occultist umberto giving it some strange brew with his mix, and wrapping up the package are glaswegian djs wrong island with their own particular take on the track.

tanstaafl ends the year with october and john osborn manning the helm bracing us for the dark days that lie ahead. big kicks and pseudo acid sounds collide with dub sound system principles in this collaboration between the two label heads. limited to 300 units so get them while they last.

in the country mario & vidis come from cover version is a little bit of a curse word and arouses serious suspicions whenever mentioned. even the biggest pop names do half of their gigs and have half of their income just performing well-known songs and impersonating well-known international artists. but when the vocals of bon ivers >re: stacks< recorded by up and coming british singer songwriter james barbarossa mathe were sent their way they didnt have a slightest doubt. not an obvious track selection and a really unique vocal treatment inspired them for a cover version of a different kind. as yet another proof of superior quality the release comes with a remix from Âme. vinyl only and limited to 300 copies this one is a little bit special.

belgrades nightclubs provide relaxation for all fans of electronic music throughout the year. electronic sound spreads its vibration from slavija - the heart of belgrade, to belgrades kalemegdan fortress over to the mouth of sava and danube rivers, where you can expect daily and nightly entertainment. end of summer is a special experience of the year, where people spread atoms of positive energy and they dont allow the season to be over. therefore we decided to mark the end of the summer with vinyl ep named >ikebana<, belgrades dj and producer marko vukovi. his music style leads to adrenaline and prepares people for the coming cold days.

taiki and nulight or to their friends rowan harrington and erka chinbayer have both been djing/producing for many years both in very different circles. taikis career started back in 2008 under his old alias name site 1 who was a house/electro producer. they joined forces and started working together in 2011 which now seems like a lifetime ago considering on what they have achieved in such a short time. when they first started out working together they were making a lot of dubstep, house and electro influenced bass music as we call it now. being heavily into garage, house and electronic dance music there sound heavily progressed across the spectrum of dance music. taiki and nulight released their first ep in february 2012 on subway recordings which gained a lot of support from the likes of mistajam, crookers, herve zinc, redlight, foamo, roska, benga, skream, adam f, hatcha, n type and more. gaining them a lot of frequent airtime on bbc radio 1, 1xtra, kiss 100 and rinse fm. now nearly a year and a half since they have joined forces, they have received massive support from some of the most respected djs out there not to mention air time nearly every week on radio 1 and kiss 100. with their next release on the horizon and due to drop december time 2012 on bengas very well respected label benga beats there is so much more that you will see from these boys and so much new material to hear.

for the belonging soundtrack >solo-swim< the notwist worked with dissected guitars and electronic, but they also let nick drake and his acoustic guitar cross the channel. because the music of klimek played an important source of inspiration for that song, the notwist asked him for a remix. martin gretschmann aka console added one unreleased song.

niche n bump is a new label from london, started by one of the crew behind the wifey club nights. their stated aim is to make records that djs will play forever, not just a few weeks, and they are taking an emphatic step towards that goal with an inaugural release by the timeless spatial.
the record begins a new phase for spatial, where intuition and chance take over, with whirlpools of echo sucking in disco vocals and reggae samples.

it has been a memorable year for the luv shack. release after release, props after props, watching the guys build on a solid foundations and take it up a notch each time. if you listen to their first release (again), and then this new release, you will see just how far they have travelled in such a small time frame. and yes, it started with a couple of mini compilations and eps to see what the reaction would be. the reaction was good, actually no, the reaction was great, the right jocks took to the guys and the early eps and hence since, the luv shack posse have been locked up in a studio ever since. they have been productive, and more to the point, excelling in that production. it is going to be a brilliant 2013.

these redux releases are like buses, we dont hear anything for ages then they hit us with three killer eps in a row. following the grand corporation and machete savane comes the return of phoreski. we have not heard much from phoreski for a little while, but you will soon hear why when you put the needle to the record on these two new tracks. he has been busily building up his studio into an enviable aladdins den of vintage kit, wires and analogue recording equipment. all synths and vocals you hear on these tracks come from phoreski, no samples, no guests, no edits. he has been hinting at this raw, analogue authentic sound for a while, but these tracks showcase a producer at one with the machines. >brown biscuits< comes across like some lost italo/cosmic gem, but via the north east of england rather than the lakes of italy. >machines< flexes tight proto-house rhythms with some bass that will make mince meat of lesser club soundsystems whilst the feuding synth lines fight for attention. this is proper body music, play loud!
